RUTH LEVI is a WAAPA graduate Designer based in Sydney, whose work spans a range of disciplines including film, TV, advertising, stills photography, events and stage.
As an Art Director she has worked on various TV productions such as After the Verdict for Nine Network; Netflix / ABC series The Let Down 2 directed by Trent O’Donnell and Amanda Brotchie; Network 10 series For Real completing a total of 37 half hour episodes; Patricia Moore, a nine part thriller for French streaming platform Blackpills; and has also Art Directed in house with Nickelodeon on a range of shows.
Production Design credits include Dom and Adrian 2020 directed by Christiaan Van Vuuren with Easy Tiger for Stan; Nice Shorts a series created by Nick Boshier and Jazz Twemlow with Bunya Productions; The Hitchhiker Short Film directed by Adele Vuko with Jungle Entertainment; Short Film Let’s See How Fast This Baby Will Go directed by Julietta Boscolo; ABC comedy series DAFUQ? and The Legend of Gavin Tanner with Mad Kids, for which she was nominated for Best Production Design at the WA Screen Awards. Ruth’s Production Design on digital short Set Yourself Free, also with Mad Kids, was part of a world wide viral success, quickly attracting well over 20 million views on YouTube. Ruth has designed various TV productions with some of the same creators, including Henry and Aaron's Christmas Special for ABC. Her first feature film credit as a Production Designer was for Pinch, an independent production that won Best Film over commercial favourites Paper Planes and Kill me Three Times at the WA Screen Awards in 2015.
Ruth loves an opportunity to learn under prolific designers and has been fortunate to work closely with several including Roger Ford, Lisa Thompson and Annie Beauchamp. She is excited to see her work on screen at the upcoming premier of Three Thousand Years of Longing directed by George Miller, starring Tilda Swinton and Idris Elba.
Some other reel favourites include Art Directing music video Shake That, directed by Gracie Otto starring Samantha Jade and Pitbull with Sony Music; Zues music video for Art vs Science; working as a Set Stylist with Photographer Georges Antoni; joining the Costume Department of Cirque du Soleil's touring show Ovo and being selected to participate in the 2011 Prague Quadrennial Design Conference where she designed and constructed large scale structured costume for a street performance. Ruth also Art Directed at Splendour in the Grass and The Falls Festival Byron Bay for the event’s popular Tepee Life village across two seasons in 2014/15.
Between long form and creative projects she has enjoyed Art Directing many commercials with production companies such as Powered Studios, Photoplay, Revolver, Brightworks, Jungle Entertainment, Foxtel, Playbig Film, The Creative Foundry, T&DA, Heckler, Sixty40, Mister, Howling, Engineroom, Clemenger BBDO and more.
Ruth loves exploring new ideas and collaborating with others. Her practical approach, attention to detail and enthusiasm for finding versatile and functional solutions, contribute to her ability to create bespoke worlds that tell meaningful stories.
